Position Overview
We are looking for a skilled Operator with preferred experience in residential excavation operations. As an Operator, you will play a crucial role in preparing sites for construction, ensuring precise excavation according to blueprints and site plans.
Key Responsibilities
Operate heavy equipment, including excavators and loaders, to perform tasks such as digging, trenching, and backfilling.
Grade and level terrain to ensure proper drainage and foundation stability.
Assist in the installation of utilities such as sewer, water lines, and drainage systems.
Conduct pre-operational checks on equipment and ensure adherence to safety standards and OSHA regulations.
Implement erosion control measures and maintain a safe working environment on-site.
Read and interpret blueprints and construction plans accurately to execute excavation tasks effectively.
Perform regular maintenance checks, clean, and lubricate equipment.
Train new crew members in the safe operation of equipment and communicate issues with upper management immediately.
Perform other construction duties as needed.
Ensure sites are kept clean and safe at all times.
Attend meetings and refreshers to ensure responsible equipment operation.
Identify faults, troubleshoot equipment, and report to the Supervisor.
Understand and layout the scope of work from all provided design documents.
Coordinate labor, parts, and trucking with the Supervisor.
Work with the General Contractor, Concrete, and other trades to schedule and clarify the scope of work.
identify soil types and their characteristics to ensure efficient and safe excavation practices.
Log and track jobsite progress, including any changes to the scope.
Understand layouts and grades, verifying accuracy during the job's progress until completion.
Work overtime as needed to complete tasks, meet customer deadlines, or address weather setbacks.
Physical Requirements
Able to lift 80 lbs or more with assistance.
Frequent climbing in and out of various machines.
Walking, working, and operating on steep grades.
Using hand tools such as shovels, rakes, and pickaxes frequently.
Setting up and using ladders.
Lifting equipment/objects above head.
Maintaining stamina during varying weather conditions throughout the scheduled shift.
Complying with all safety programs and established guidelines.
Qualifications
Minimum of 5+ years of experience operating heavy excavation equipment and machinery.
Ability to read and interpret architectural and structural drawings, elevations, and specifications.
Ability to read, interpret, and follow safety manuals, warning signs, and drawings for site equipment.
Strong oral communication skills to give and receive, instructions, task assignments and safety notifications.
Strong mathematical skills, including multiplication and division.
Ability to perform operations using units of weight measurement, volume, and distance.
Ability to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
Ability to work well with limited supervision.
High school diploma.
Current driver’s license.
Positive outlook and willingness to learn.
Previous experience in operating heavy equipment in excavation.

$30.00 - $50.00 per hour
